Becoming the best version of ourselves is not an overnight process. It’s more of a lifelong commitment that requires consistency. Whether you’re seeking clarity in your goals, looking to enhance your mindset, or aiming to unlock your full potential, there are several books available to help guide you on your journey. I want to share 3 books that have helped shape my personal growth and self-discovery journey. If you’re looking for some inspiration, these books have the potential to be your guiding light.
The Gifts of Imperfections by Brene Brown
Brene Brown will always be at the top of my list. She is That Girl! I’m a recovering perfectionist and struggle with vulnerability at times. This book shifted my mindset towards wholehearted living. Brown truly shines a light on feeling worthy and presenting your authentic, imperfect selves to the world. She shares 10 guidepost principles to live by to encourage readers to let go of the need for perfectionism and instead focus on cultivating a sense of authenticity and self-compassion.
“Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome”
Set Boundaries, Find Peace by Nedra Glover Tawwab
I was first introduced to licensed therapist, Nedra Glover Tawwab at a work conference. She hosted a workshop on setting boundaries in the workplace and personal life. This was during a time when I began setting real boundaries for myself, so being introduced to Tawwab was perfect timing in my life. Set Boundaries, Find Peace is a great resource on how to effectively set boundaries, navigate challenging conversations when boundary limits are pushed, and prioritize self-care.
The Alter Ego Effect by Todd Herman
Many of us are guilty of standing in the way of unleashing our full potential. If you’re searching for inspiration to help get out of your comfort zone so you can perform at your peak, The Alter Ego Effect is a great resource. Herman’s aim is to help you tap into your hidden potential by adopting an alter ego – a powerful, confident persona to overcome obstacles. He shares several stories about how leaders and athletes are able to overcome self-doubt and achieve their dreams by creating alter egos (think Klark Kent, Sasha Fierce, the Black Mamba)
As I mentioned, becoming our best selves is not an overnight process. You will not read these recommended books one time and instantly have all the answers. Instead, they are timeless tools that you can return to whenever you need guidance and inspiration. Take notes as you read so you can reflect on your journey to becoming a better you. Happy reading, and may these books continue to light your way.
I would love to hear about your favorite self-development book. Please share in the comments.
