Kindle Love: Why I Can’t Imagine Life Without My E-Reader

When I rekindled my love for reading a few years ago, I switched from physical books to primarily ebooks using the Kindle app on my phone or iPad. The thought of getting a Kindle e-reader crossed my mind a few times but adding another device seemed like gadget overload. As time passed, I started craving the simple joy of using an e-reader without any distractions. Fast forward to today, and I’m a full-fledged Kindle convert (Team Kindle Paperwhite to be exact!). It has become my favorite gadget that goes everywhere with me. Grab your favorite cup of coffee or tea, and let’s dive into 7 reasons why the Kindle e-reader has become my new best friend.

Lightweight in size

I love how light the Kindle is. I can take it anywhere. I often find myself reading while doing cardio on the treadmill or Stairmaster after a strength training workout. It distracts me from the workout, which can be helpful if you find cardio monotonous. I also take it with me while traveling, in bed late at night, and even while being a passenger princess. The best part is that you’re carrying around a library full of books on a device that weighs less than a pound. If you’re one to tote multiple books around, the Kindle is perfect for you.

Access to apps: Libby, Amazon, Goodreads

Libby

Libby is a digital library app that works the same way as if you were to visit your local library. You search for books to “check out” for a loan period (each library varies on the loan period). If the book isn’t available due to being checked out to other readers, you put yourself on a waitlist. The waitlist period varies by book popularity and how many copies your local library has to loan out. Once a book is available to you, you’re able to download it directly to your Kindle. Once the loan period is over, the book is automatically returned to the library for the next person to borrow. Think of it as visiting the library without leaving your home.

Amazon

Amazon owns Kindle so if you’re not patient enough to wait for a library loan, you can purchase the Kindle edition of a book from Amazon and download it directly to your e-reader. You can do this within the Amazon app, browser, or within your Kindle e-reader itself when connected to wifi.

Goodreads

Goodreads is a free service app, also owned by Amazon, that allows you to track your reading, discover new books, set reading goals, and connect with other readers. When you start a new book, Kindle will automatically mark your books as “currently reading” in Goodreads and track your progress. Once a book is complete, the status will update to “read” and allow you to rate and review the book to share with others within the app.

Long-lasting battery life

Ditch the daily charging struggle. Unlike your phone or tablet that needs constant juice to run all the background apps you have open, a Kindle boasts weeks of battery life (specs state 10 weeks but of course, this varies by settings). This means uninterrupted reading sessions without battery anxiety! The Kindle only needs Wi-Fi to download new books so keep the device in airplane mode to extend the battery life.

Breeze through books

While science might not have a definitive answer on reading speed with ebooks, there’s no denying the feeling of flying through books on a Kindle. I think it has to be with it being extremely light in my hands compared to the weight of a physical book. Fantasy books, my new favorite genre, are bulky and can become straining on the arms trying to keep the pages from closing. I don’t have to worry about that with my Kindle. It stays put wherever positioned allowing me to remain lost in the story whether curled up on the couch or propped against a pillow reading in the bed.

Easy on the eye

Tired eyes got you down? With the Kindle e-reader, eye comfort is a priority. You can adjust the font size, brightness, and warmth level to match your preferred environment and reading preference. Say goodbye to the harsh glare of traditional screens. Kindle uses e-ink technology mimicking the experience of reading a physical book. This reduces eye strain compared to backlit devices. The lowlight settings are perfect for the night owl who wants to stay up late finishing a book without disturbing anyone’s sleep. No more side eyes from your children or partner.

Space saving solution

Living in a snug 1-bedroom apartment means every square inch counts. It’s one reason I made the switch from physical books to ebooks. I have a bookshelf that is pretty much full of books and storage items. Real estate space is premium! I have dreams of having a library/study room in my future home but until then, my Kindle is my virtual library room. Just like you can organize physical books by alphabetical order, color scheme, genre, etc., you can curate collections on your Kindle. My collections are organized by genre, making it a breeze to find a book.

My Kindle Collection

So, there you have it! My 7 reasons why the Kindle has become my bff. Whether you’re a seasoned bookworm or looking to rekindle your love for reading, the Kindle offers a world of possibilities at your fingertips. It’s truly your friend ensuring that you have a comfortable and enjoyable reading experience. Ready to experience the magic of the Kindle and carry an entire library in your hands wherever you go? Head over to the Amazon Kindle Store to find the model that fits you. Do you have a favorite way to enjoy reading?
